About Hackensaw Boys
Hackensaw Boys are an American string band formed in Charlottesville, Virginia, in 1999. They play old-time folk, bluegrass and country with a punk-edged rhythmic drive, and are known for albums including Love What You Do, Look Out! and Charismo.
During the 2000s, Hackensaw Boys toured with Cake and Modest Mouse, taking their fiddle, banjo, guitar and upright-bass lineup into clubs and festivals. Their homemade percussion instrument, the charismo, became a feature of those performances. The band also served as country singer Charlie Louvin’s backing group and performed with him at Bonnaroo.
