James Yorkston is a Scottish folk singer-songwriter and guitarist from Fife, associated with the Fence Collective. His 2002 debut album, Moving Up Country, introduced songs including “The Lang Toun” and “St. Patrick”; later releases include Just Beyond the River, The Year of the Leopard and the spoken-word piece “Woozy with Cider.” James Yorkston took the material from his early records on the road with The Athletes and has also performed solo with acoustic guitar. He later toured and recorded in Yorkston/Thorne/Khan, a trio with double bassist Jon Thorne and sarangi player and singer Suhail Yusuf Khan. He also founded and curated Tae Sup wi’ a Fifer, a concert series pairing his performances with invited musicians and writers at the Adam Smith Theatre in Kirkcaldy.
