John Cleese is a British comedian, actor and writer, born in Weston-super-Mare in 1939. He became known as a member of Monty Python and through Monty Python’s Flying Circus, then co-created Fawlty Towers and played its hotelier Basil Fawlty. His film work includes writing and starring in A Fish Called Wanda.

In 1980, he performed with the troupe in the shows filmed for Monty Python Live at the Hollywood Bowl. In 2014, he reunited with the other surviving members for Monty Python Live (Mostly), a run that concluded with the troupe’s final performance at London’s O2 Arena.
