John Sebastian in Old Saybrook

John Sebastian is an American folk-rock singer-songwriter and harmonica player, born in New York City in 1944. He co-founded the Lovin’ Spoonful and wrote or co-wrote songs including “Do You Believe in Magic,” “Daydream” and “Summer in the City.” His solo work is best known for “Welcome Back,” the theme song for the television series Welcome Back, Kotter. At Woodstock in 1969, Sebastian gave an unscheduled solo set that included “Younger Generation” and “Darlin’ Be Home Soon.” He returned to a major festival stage the following year, performing at the Isle of Wight Festival.
