About Johnny Mathis
Johnny Mathis is an American traditional pop and easy-listening singer, born in 1935 in Gilmer, Texas, and raised in San Francisco. His best-known recordings include “Chances Are,” “It’s Not for Me to Say,” “Wonderful! Wonderful!” and “Misty,” while the album Merry Christmas established a lasting part of his repertoire.
Johnny Mathis performed at the 440 Club early in his career, where Columbia Records producer George Avakian heard him before signing him to the label. He later performed in theatres, concert halls and casino showrooms, and Johnny Mathis in Person documented his stage repertoire in Las Vegas.
