Machiko Watanabe in Chiyoda City

Machiko Watanabe is a Japanese singer-songwriter, born in Yokosuka in 1956, whose work spans pop and kayōkyoku. She made her recording debut in 1978 with “Mayoigo” and became closely associated with “Kamome ga Tonda Hi”; her other signature songs include “Blue” and “Kuchibiru yo, Atsuku Kimi o Katare.” In 1978, she performed “Kamome ga Tonda Hi” at the NHK Kōhaku Uta Gassen, then sang “Kuchibiru yo, Atsuku Kimi o Katare” on the broadcast in 1980 at NHK Hall.
