Michael Ian Black is an American comedian, actor and writer born in Chicago in 1971. He became known as a member of the sketch-comedy troupe The State and later for Stella, the film Wet Hot American Summer and the television series Michael & Michael Have Issues. His work also includes stand-up specials, podcasts and children’s books such as I’m Bored.

Beginning in the late 1990s, Black performed the live comedy show Stella at Fez in New York City. The project grew into touring performances, while his later solo stand-up was documented in the recorded hours Very Famous and Noted Expert, following his stage work with Michael Showalter and David Wain.
