Artist
Minyo Crusaders are a Japanese ensemble formed in Tokyo in 2011. They recast regional min’yō folk songs through cumbia and other Latin and Caribbean dance rhythms, an approach heard on the album Echoes of Japan and its versions of “Kushimoto Bushi” and “Otemoyan.” In 2019, Minyo Crusaders took that repertoire to European festivals, performing at Roskilde Festival in Denmark and WOMAD in England. Later that year, the ensemble appeared at Le Guess Who? in Utrecht.
