Haruomi Hosono in New York

Haruomi Hosono is a Japanese musician, songwriter and producer, born in Tokyo in 1947. He was a member of Happy End and Tin Pan Alley and co-founded Yellow Magic Orchestra with Ryuichi Sakamoto and Yukihiro Takahashi. His solo catalogue ranges across folk rock, electronic pop, ambient music and exotica, and includes Hosono House, Paraiso, Philharmony and the song “Sports Men.” The 1979 Trans Atlantic Tour took him through Europe and the United States as a member of Yellow Magic Orchestra, followed by the group’s 1980 World Tour. In 2019 he returned to the United States for his first solo concerts there, performing at New York’s Gramercy Theatre and Los Angeles’ Mayan Theater.

Toro y Moi is the recording project of American musician and producer Chaz Bear, who began releasing music under the name in 2008. Associated with the early chillwave movement, the project draws on electronic pop, funk, disco and alternative R&B. Albums including Causers of This, Underneath the Pine and Anything in Return produced songs such as “Blessa,” “Still Sound” and “So Many Details.” Toro y Moi appeared at Coachella in 2011 as Bear adapted his studio work for a touring band. The 2016 concert film and album Live from Trona documented Bear and his band performing in California’s Mojave Desert.
