About Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra
The Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra is an American orchestra founded in 1895. It performs classical symphonic repertoire, and its recording history is closely associated with conductors William Steinberg, André Previn, Lorin Maazel, Mariss Jansons and Manfred Honeck, including works by Beethoven, Mahler and Richard Strauss.
Heinz Hall has been its home since 1971, hosting subscription concerts and special programs. Maazel and Jansons led the orchestra on international tours, followed by further European tours under Honeck.
Away from Pittsburgh, the orchestra has performed at the Salzburg Festival and at London’s BBC Proms.
