Rui Veloso in Figueira do Foz

Rui Veloso is a Portuguese singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in 1957, whose music is rooted in rock and blues. His 1980 debut album, Ar de Rock, introduced “Chico Fininho”; later staples include “Porto Covo,” “Não Há Estrelas no Céu” and “A Paixão (Segundo Nicolau da Viola).” Many of his best-known songs were written with lyricist Carlos Tê. In 1990, Rui Veloso opened for B.B. King at Coliseu do Porto, connecting his own guitar-led work directly to one of his principal blues inspirations. The following year he gave a stadium concert at Estádio José Alvalade, and later appearances brought his full-band show to Rock in Rio Lisboa.
