Artists
Saltatio Mortis are a German medieval-rock and folk-metal band formed in Karlsruhe in 2000. They are known for songs including “Spielmannsschwur” and for albums such as Brot und Spiele and Für immer frei. In their early years, Saltatio Mortis performed at the Mittelalterlich Phantasie Spectaculum, establishing a close connection to Germany’s medieval-event circuit. They later mounted the Brot und Spiele Tour and the Für immer frei Tour, playing rock halls and open-air venues across German-speaking Europe. Saltatio Mortis perform as a full band led by singer Alea der Bescheidene. Electric guitars and drums are joined by bagpipes, hurdy-gurdy and other historical instruments central to the group’s sound. The band has also performed at Wacken Open Air and Summer Breeze Open Air, two established events on Germany’s metal-festival calendar.
Subway To Sally are a German medieval rock and folk-metal band formed in Potsdam in 1990. Their music sets German-language lyrics against heavy guitars, violin and folk instruments; key releases include Hochzeit, Herzblut and Nord Nord Ost, while “Kleid aus Rosen,” “Sieben” and “Eisblumen” are among their best-known songs. The 2006 Nackt tour presented the group’s repertoire in an acoustic concert format and was documented on a live release. In 2009, the band established the Eisheilige Nacht winter concert series, appearing with changing guest acts at venues around Germany. Subway To Sally have also made repeated festival appearances at Wacken Open Air.
