Sir Richard Bishop is an American guitarist and composer, born in 1960 and known as a co-founder of the experimental group Sun City Girls, formed in Phoenix in 1981. His solo instrumental music draws on folk traditions, flamenco, raga and Middle Eastern guitar styles; key recordings include Salvador Kali, Improvika, Polytheistic Fragments and The Freak of Araby. Sun City Girls toured during their long run as a trio, before the group ended following drummer Charles Gocher’s death in 2007. Sir Richard Bishop then concentrated on solo guitar concerts, performing on acoustic and electric instruments, and in 2010 formed the touring trio Rangda with Ben Chasny and Chris Corsano.
