Spoon in Austin

Spoon is an American indie-rock band formed in Austin, Texas, in 1993 by singer-guitarist Britt Daniel and drummer Jim Eno. The band is known for albums including Kill the Moonlight, Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga and They Want My Soul, as well as songs such as “The Way We Get By,” “I Turn My Camera On” and “The Underdog.” Spoon launched the Lucifer on the Sofa Tour in 2022 for a run of North American headline shows. Later that year, Spoon and Interpol co-headlined the Lights, Camera, Factions Tour, opened by Metric; the following year, Spoon joined selected dates of Weezer’s Indie Rock Roadtrip. Spoon’s club shows have included the 9:30 Club in Washington and First Avenue in Minneapolis.

Alejandro Escovedo is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist, born in San Antonio in 1951 and long associated with Austin’s roots-rock scene. His career has included punk with The Nuns, country-rock with Rank and File, and the harder rock of True Believers, followed by solo albums such as Gravity, Thirteen Years, A Man Under the Influence and Real Animal. “Castanets” and “Always a Friend” are among his best-known solo songs. In 1978, he played guitar with The Nuns when the group opened the Sex Pistols’ final concert at Winterland Ballroom in San Francisco. He later toured with Rank and File and fronted True Believers before documenting his mid-1990s solo performances on More Miles Than Money: Live 1994-96. In 2008, Bruce Springsteen joined him during a concert at the Stone Pony in Asbury Park.
