The Inspirations in Prestonsburg

The Inspirations are an American Southern gospel quartet formed in 1964 in Bryson City, North Carolina. Rooted in close four-part harmony, they are known for songs including “Touring That City,” “When I Wake Up to Sleep No More” and “Shoutin’ Time in Heaven.” The quartet launched Singing in the Smokies during its first year, establishing an annual hometown gospel gathering closely tied to the group. Years of touring churches and auditoriums followed, alongside appearances at the National Quartet Convention.
