About The Tallis Scholars
The Tallis Scholars are a British vocal ensemble founded by conductor Peter Phillips in 1973, specializing in sacred polyphony of the Renaissance. They are known for unaccompanied performances and recordings of music by Thomas Tallis, William Byrd, Josquin des Prez and Giovanni Pierluigi da Palestrina, as well as Gregorio Allegri’s “Miserere.”
The ensemble gave its first concert at the Church of St Mary Magdalen in Oxford in 1973. During its 40th-anniversary world tour in 2013, it reached its 2,000th concert at St Paul’s Cathedral in London.
