Tommy James & The Shondells is an American rock group formed in Niles, Michigan, in 1964 around singer Tommy James. The group became known through a sequence of 1960s pop-rock and psychedelic hits that included “Hanky Panky,” “I Think We’re Alone Now,” “Mony Mony,” “Crimson and Clover” and “Crystal Blue Persuasion.” In 1968, Tommy James & The Shondells performed at campaign events for presidential nominee Hubert Humphrey and appeared at the Miami Pop Festival. The original lineup’s touring run ended in 1970, when James stepped away after collapsing following a concert in Birmingham, Alabama.
