About Broken Social Scene
Broken Social Scene is a Canadian indie-rock collective formed in Toronto in 1999 by Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning. The group became known for the albums You Forgot It in People and Broken Social Scene, and for songs including “Anthems for a Seventeen Year-Old Girl,” “Cause = Time” and “7/4 (Shoreline).”
In 2009, Broken Social Scene played a free show at Harbourfront Centre in Toronto; footage from the concert became central to Bruce McDonald’s film This Movie Is Broken. The band toured behind Hug of Thunder in 2017 and later presented You Forgot It in People in full during its 20th-anniversary tour.
The live band is an expanded ensemble with several singers and multi-instrumentalists, and its personnel can change between tours. Kevin Drew and Brendan Canning anchor performances drawn from the collective’s catalogue.
Broken Social Scene has repeatedly performed in New York and Los Angeles. The band also returns to Seattle and Portland on North American tours.
