About Land of Talk
Land of Talk is a Canadian indie-rock band formed in Montreal in 2006 by singer, guitarist and songwriter Elizabeth Powell. The group became known through the EP Applause Cheer Boo Hiss and albums including Some Are Lakes, Cloak and Cipher and Life After Youth; “Some Are Lakes” and “It’s Okay” are among its best-known songs.
Land of Talk toured North America with Broken Social Scene during the Some Are Lakes period, and Powell also performed in Broken Social Scene’s touring lineup. After vocal-cord surgery interrupted the band’s live schedule, Land of Talk resumed performing before entering a hiatus in 2011. The group returned to the stage in 2015 and later toured behind Life After Youth and Performances, with Elizabeth Powell leading the live lineup.
