Artist
Ilhan Ersahin is a Swedish-Turkish saxophonist, composer and bandleader, born in Stockholm in 1965. He plays jazz shaped by funk, electronic music and Turkish traditions, and is known for his work with Wax Poetic and the projects Silver and Istanbul Sessions. He opened Nublu in New York’s East Village in 2002 and made the club a performing base for the musicians around his projects. In 2008 he formed Istanbul Sessions, taking the saxophone-led group to jazz clubs and festivals, including the Istanbul Jazz Festival. The ensemble performs as a quartet, with Ersahin on saxophone, Alp Ersönmez on bass, Turgut Alp Bekoğlu on drums and İzzet Kızıl on percussion. Its collaboration with trumpeter Erik Truffaz is documented on the album Istanbul Sessions with Erik Truffaz.
