About Malo
Malo is an American Latin rock band formed in San Francisco in 1971 by singer Arcelio Garcia and guitarist Jorge Santana. Its brass, Latin percussion, funk and rock sound is captured on the 1972 debut album Malo, which produced the band’s signature song, “Suavecito.” The group followed it with albums including Dos, Evolution and Ascención.
In the 1970s, Malo toured behind those records as a large ensemble built around horns and Latin percussion. Later lineups led by Arcelio Garcia kept the band active on California stages. Malo also performed with Tierra and El Chicano at concerts billed as Latin Legends Live.
