Mitsuko Uchida is a Japanese-British classical pianist, born in Atami in 1948 and educated in Vienna. She is especially known for her interpretations and recordings of Mozart, Schubert and Beethoven, as well as music by Schoenberg, Berg and Webern. Her discography includes cycles of Mozart’s piano concertos and sonatas and major surveys of Schubert’s piano works.

In 1982, Uchida performed a London cycle of Mozart piano concertos with the English Chamber Orchestra, a project that led to her Philips recordings of the repertoire. Her later partnership with the Cleveland Orchestra included performances of Mozart concertos directed from the keyboard and a Decca series recorded live at Severance Hall.
