About Pitch Black
Pitch Black is a New Zealand electronic duo formed in Auckland in 1996 by Paddy Free and Mike Hodgson. Their music draws on dub, ambient electronica and dance rhythms, and their best-known albums include Futureproof, Electronomicon and Ape to Angel.
Pitch Black began as a live act at The Gathering in 1996. They later performed at Big Day Out and carried their audiovisual show overseas to Glastonbury Festival and Fuji Rock.
The duo performs an electronic set synchronized with live visual manipulation. Paddy Free controls the music while Mike Hodgson shapes the projected imagery in real time.
