About Richard O'Brien
Richard O'Brien is a British-New Zealand actor, writer and musician, born in Cheltenham in 1942 and raised in New Zealand. He created the glam-rock musical The Rocky Horror Show, writing its book, music and lyrics, and played Riff Raff in both the original stage production and the film The Rocky Horror Picture Show. Its songs include “Time Warp,” “Sweet Transvestite” and “Science Fiction/Double Feature.”
The Rocky Horror Show premiered at the Royal Court Theatre Upstairs in London in 1973, with O'Brien in the original cast as Riff Raff. The production later transferred to the Classic Cinema and the King's Road Theatre. In 2015, he appeared as the Narrator in a charity gala performance at the Playhouse Theatre.
