About Andrew Lloyd Webber
Andrew Lloyd Webber is an English composer born in London in 1948, best known for musical theatre works including Jesus Christ Superstar, Evita, Cats, The Phantom of the Opera and Sunset Boulevard. His early collaborations with lyricist Tim Rice also produced Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat.
Cats opened at the New London Theatre in 1981 and transferred to Broadway’s Winter Garden Theatre the following year. The Phantom of the Opera followed at Her Majesty’s Theatre in 1986 before opening at the Majestic Theatre in 1988. In 1998, singers including Elaine Paige, Sarah Brightman and Michael Ball performed his work at a 50th-birthday gala at the Royal Albert Hall.
