Slum Village is an American hip-hop group formed in Detroit in 1996 by T3, Baatin and producer-rapper J Dilla. The group became known for soulful, jazz-rooted production and records including Fantastic, Vol. 2, Trinity (Past, Present and Future) and Detroit Deli (A Taste of Detroit). Its best-known tracks include “Fall in Love,” “Tainted” and the Kanye West-produced “Selfish,” featuring West and John Legend. In 1998, Slum Village opened for A Tribe Called Quest on the group’s farewell tour, presenting material from the Fantastic sessions. The touring lineup changed over the following years as Elzhi joined and J Dilla left the group; later performances centered on T3 and Young RJ.

Blue Lab Beats are a British duo from London, formed by producer NK-OK and multi-instrumentalist Mr DM. They make instrumental jazz shaped by hip-hop beats, soul and electronic production; their albums include Xover, Voyage and Motherland Journey. Their performance at the Royal Albert Hall was released as Live at the Royal Albert Hall, documenting the duo in an expanded band setting. They later used that live format for NPR Music’s Tiny Desk Concert, where NK-OK handled beats and electronics while Mr DM played keyboards and guitar.
