About The Chills
The Chills are a New Zealand indie-rock band formed in Dunedin in 1980 and led by singer-songwriter Martin Phillipps. Their bright, guitar-led sound became central to the Dunedin sound associated with Flying Nun Records; key songs include “Pink Frost,” “I Love My Leather Jacket” and “Heavenly Pop Hit,” while Brave Words and Submarine Bells are among their best-known albums.
The band travelled to Britain in 1985 and built an overseas audience through club and theatre tours in Europe and North America. After returning to recording with Silver Bullets, The Chills toured North America in 2016 and later played European dates behind Snow Bound.
