About The Fiery Furnaces
The Fiery Furnaces are an American experimental indie-rock duo formed in Brooklyn in 2000 by siblings Eleanor and Matthew Friedberger. Their records are known for abrupt shifts in rhythm and narrative, particularly the albums Gallowsbird’s Bark and Blueberry Boat. Rehearsing My Choir was made in collaboration with their grandmother, Olga Sarantos, whose spoken recollections shape the album.
The 2008 live album Remember draws on concerts recorded between 2005 and 2007, documenting how the duo rebuilt songs into long medleys and altered arrangements for the stage. After a decade away from concerts, The Fiery Furnaces returned to the stage at Pitchfork Music Festival in Chicago in 2021.
