About The Magnetic Fields
The Magnetic Fields are an American indie-pop group formed in Boston in 1989 by songwriter Stephin Merritt. They are best known for the 1999 triple album 69 Love Songs, which includes “The Book of Love,” “Papa Was a Rodeo” and “The Luckiest Guy on the Lower East Side”; Holiday and Get Lost are also central records in their catalogue.
The 50 Song Memoir concerts presented Merritt’s autobiographical album as a two-night theatrical work, with 25 songs performed each evening at venues including the Brooklyn Academy of Music and the Barbican. In 2024, a 25th-anniversary production of 69 Love Songs divided the complete album between two evenings and reached New York’s Town Hall.
