About Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band is an American jazz orchestra formed in Los Angeles in 1999 by composer, arranger and pianist Gordon Goodwin. The ensemble plays modern big-band jazz shaped by swing and funk, and is known for Goodwin compositions including “The Jazz Police” and “Hunting Wabbits,” as well as albums such as Swingin’ for the Fences and XXL.
Gordon Goodwin's Big Phat Band has taken its orchestral repertoire to the Hollywood Bowl and Walt Disney Concert Hall, while performances at Catalina Jazz Club have placed the ensemble in a close-range jazz setting. Its festival history also includes the Monterey Jazz Festival, where Goodwin’s compositions and arrangements are performed by the full brass, reed and rhythm sections.
