Artist
Los Jaivas are a Chilean band formed in Viña del Mar in 1963. They play progressive rock shaped by Andean folk music, using instruments such as quena, charango and trutruca alongside electric guitars, keyboards and drums. Their best-known works include “Todos Juntos,” “Mira Niñita” and the album Alturas de Machu Picchu, which sets poems by Pablo Neruda to music. In 1981, Los Jaivas filmed a performance of Alturas de Machu Picchu among the ruins of Machu Picchu, creating the concert document most closely associated with the album. In 2013, the band marked its 50th anniversary with a free outdoor concert beside the Museo Nacional de Bellas Artes in Santiago.
