Maceo Parker is an American saxophonist, born in Kinston, North Carolina, in 1943, who plays funk and soul jazz. He became known through James Brown recordings including “Papa’s Got a Brand New Bag” and “Cold Sweat,” then worked with Parliament-Funkadelic and Prince. His solo catalogue includes Roots Revisited and the live album Life on Planet Groove.

Maceo Parker toured in James Brown’s band during the 1960s and later took the stage with Parliament-Funkadelic in the 1970s. Life on Planet Groove documented his own band in Cologne in 1992, including an extended performance of “Shake Everything You’ve Got.” He later joined Prince for the One Nite Alone... Tour in 2002.
