About MPB4
MPB4 is a Brazilian vocal quartet formed in Niterói in 1965, known for close four-part arrangements in MPB and samba. Its catalogue includes “Amigo É pra Essas Coisas” and the album Antologia do Samba, while its long association with Chico Buarque connected it to songs such as “Roda Viva.”
At the 1967 Festival da Música Popular Brasileira, MPB4 joined Chico Buarque to perform “Roda Viva” in the televised competition. The quartet’s harmonies were central to the performance, and the song finished third at Teatro Paramount.
