About múm
múm are an Icelandic experimental electronic band formed in 1997 by Gunnar Örn Tynes, Örvar Smárason and twin sisters Gyða and Kristín Anna Valtýsdóttir. They make electronic music built around cut-up beats, acoustic and classical instruments, and unconventional sound sources. Their releases include the debut album Yesterday Was Dramatic, Today Is OK, Finally We Are No One, Summer Make Good and Smilewound.
In 2002, múm recorded a session for BBC broadcaster John Peel. Three years later, the band performed at Amsterdam’s Holland Festival in collaboration with the National Dutch Chamber Orchestra, presenting a work inspired by composer Iannis Xenakis.
