About Sigur Rós
Sigur Rós are an Icelandic post-rock band formed in Reykjavík in 1994. Their atmospheric sound, Jónsi’s falsetto and the use of bowed electric guitar became widely associated with albums including Ágætis byrjun, ( ) and Takk..., and songs such as “Svefn-g-englar” and “Hoppípolla.”
During the summer of 2006, Sigur Rós gave a series of free concerts around Iceland that were filmed for the concert documentary Heima. After returning to the road in 2012, the group played theatres, arenas and festivals on a tour that extended into 2013. In 2023, it presented orchestral concerts built around Átta, working with the London Contemporary Orchestra in Europe and Wordless Music Orchestra in North America.
The group performs in a full-band format, and many of its concert arrangements center on bowed electric guitar and the falsetto vocals of singer and guitarist Jónsi.
