About The Congos
The Congos are a Jamaican roots-reggae vocal group formed in Kingston by Cedric Myton and Roydel “Ashanti Roy” Johnson, later joined by Watty Burnett. Their best-known album is Heart of the Congos, produced by Lee “Scratch” Perry at his Black Ark studio and featuring songs such as “Fisherman,” “Congoman” and “Open Up the Gate.”
The Congos performed at Rototom Sunsplash in 2012, presenting their three-part vocal interplay over a live reggae band. They later brought that full-band format to London’s Jazz Cafe.
