About Guided By Voices
Guided By Voices is an American indie-rock band formed in Dayton, Ohio, in 1983 by singer-songwriter Robert Pollard. The band is known for compact, hook-heavy songs and a rough home-recorded sound, particularly on the albums Bee Thousand and Alien Lanes. “I Am a Scientist” and “Game of Pricks” are among its signature tracks.
The Electrifying Conclusion farewell tour ended with a New Year’s Eve 2004 concert at the Metro in Chicago. The classic lineup reunited in 2010 for Matador at 21 in Las Vegas and then undertook further reunion tours before splitting again in 2014. A new lineup returned to the stage at Sled Island in Calgary in 2016.
A Guided By Voices concert is a full-band rock set, often built as a long sequence of short songs drawn from several periods of the group’s catalog. Microphone swings and high kicks are recurring parts of the stage performance by Robert Pollard.
