About Alisa Weilerstein
Alisa Weilerstein is an American cellist, born in Rochester in 1982. She is known for her interpretations of Bach’s Cello Suites, Elgar’s Cello Concerto and contemporary repertoire. Her recording of the Elgar and Elliott Carter cello concertos was made with the Staatskapelle Berlin under Daniel Barenboim.
At 13, she made her professional debut with the Cleveland Orchestra. She later appeared as a soloist with the Berlin Philharmonic, London Symphony Orchestra and New York Philharmonic, while pianist Inon Barnatan became a regular recital partner.
In Fragments, she performs Bach’s six suites across a sequence of staged programs, placing each suite among newly commissioned works. The production was directed by Elkhanah Pulitzer.
She has given recitals at Wigmore Hall in London and performed solo and collaborative programs at Carnegie Hall in New York. Her orchestral work has also taken her to the BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
