Zubin Mehta is an Indian conductor, born in Bombay in 1936, whose work encompasses symphonic music and opera. His discography includes symphonies by Gustav Mahler and Anton Bruckner and orchestral works by Richard Strauss.

In 1962, he became music director of the Los Angeles Philharmonic; he took the same post with the Israel Philharmonic Orchestra in 1977 and the New York Philharmonic in 1978. In 1990, he conducted the first Three Tenors concert at the Baths of Caracalla in Rome, and he later returned repeatedly to lead the Vienna Philharmonic's New Year's Concert at the Musikverein.
